What is an ARO?
And what is its role in the cultural ecosystem?

This series of talks and events takes place throughout the research, development, and presentation of the Transformer project. Transformer Informal brings together a broad range of participants to discuss and expand on the project’s themes and aspirations.

For Transformer Informal #2 we turn our focus to the project’s central player – the Artist Run Organisation (ARO).

As stated in the project description, “Transformer focuses on the dynamic generated by AROs and their engagement with contingencies of the present, engendering artistic discourse via artists-based research activities in-situ’.

The discussion will be led by visiting writer, editor and curator Tom Clark, who is developing the project’s online platform.

The panel, which includes resident artists Laila Hida (Le 18, Marrakech, Morocco), Mohamed Fariji (L’Atelier de l’Observatoire, Casablanca, Morocco) and Fenêtreproject – Dustin Cauchi, Francesca Mangion (Blitz, Valletta, Malta), will discuss what defines an ARO, and sets it apart form other arts organisations, and it’s role in the cultural ecosystem.

This will be a discussion-based event which aims to bring an outside perspective to the topic, while also exploring the local scene.
