Yes, You Can Eat This

Children’s programme as part of the exhibition You Are What You Eat
May 2016

The children’s programme will include a hands-on workshop where our young audience is invited to create a fantasy supermarket installation, which stays in the galleries for the duration of the ‘You Are What You Eat’ exhibition. Using the tin can as a starting point and a blank canvas, participants will design labels and invent fictitious contents, discuss the history of tinned food, and explore the exhibition. Downstairs, parents and big kids alike can do some colouring-in and socialise over tea and coffee.

The workshop is led by Sandra Banthorpe, a practising artist who currently works as a Set Decorator/ Designer on international films and stills work. Sandra has been the Creative Director of the Kinemastik Short Film Festival for many years, where she also directs Maltaʼs only childrenʼs film festival ‘Little Rock People’. In both her art practice and design roles Sandra creates seemingly familiar environments which on closer inspection reveal more arcane worlds.

Age group: 5-12 years
