What is a proverb?
Proverbs are the traditional, historic sayings of a country. They are short, clever sentences that usually offer life advice. Native English speakers often use them in conversation without even realising it. Proverbs can teach you more about a country’s culture than any textbook.
This hands-on workshop invites Blitz’s young audience to bring these proverbs to life. Using traditional collage methods, such as cutting, sticking and pasting, they will be working with the language of typography, in all its shapes and sizes. Building up their collages from letters cut out of printed media, such as magazines and newspapers, each child will create their own placard.
The children will then take part in a mini demo performance – taking their proverbs to the streets.
